Traditionally Goan

I was never good with geography or history in school, so I won't even attempt to give you a breakdown of where some of the #traditionallygoan dishes originate from. What I will say is that I have discovered #coconut (yes coconut) is a key ingredient in a number of various recipes.

My family hosted a get together over the holidays & we served up #sorpatel #sanaas #chickenxacuti & #sindhibiryani with mutton. The #sorpatel is a dish that is served on occasions such as Christmas, Easter, Christening & Communion. My mom made the #sorpatel a week in advance & boy oh boy was the flavor ever amazing. Allowing the curry to settle after being cooked gives the various ingredients ample time to combine and marry together. (my attempt at a fluent sentence). Sorpatel is served with a rice cake called #sanaa. This is a delicate little cake cooked in a steam bath in a small round aluminum container. There are stainless steel versions sold but we've not used those in the making of this fine delicacy.

Hope everyone had a joyous Christmas season and cheered in the New Year safely.
